Dear Sir/Madam,

Nice to meet you, I am a student from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio
de Janeiro for 4 years now. I have started studying Computer, Electrical
and Systems Engineering and about a year ago I changed my major to Computer
Engineering where I feel I really belong.

Since my previous engineering I already was introduced to CAD world with
SolidWorks, and as I was deepening my studies in computer science I develop
a huge interest in computer graphics.

I spent a year studying at RPI and by the end of it I interned as a
software developer at Onshape when my interest for CAD and computer
graphics finally met.

I would be very happy to dive and work in this world of CAD again and I was
interested with a lot of project ideas that you suggested, in particular
the ones from Rendering and Science Analasys group. Do you still have room
in any projects from that group?

It is my first time applying for GSoC and I feel like BRL-CAD would be a
great fit for me in the summer.

Best wishes,

Maurício Pedro Vieira

Olá Maurício,
Welcome to the mailing-list! The site still needs to be updated for this
year's GSoC, but there are ideas for projects in the BRL-CAD Wiki here:
http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Project_Ideas

You can get an idea of projects which were accepted in past years here:
http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code

(This also applies to the rest of you guys who want a project idea for GSoC
2017). You are also more than welcome to make your own proposal.

Given your background there are several things you could work on. You will
need experience with ANSI C to program in BRL-CAD. There are also other
projects in the CAx umbrella BRL-CAD is on which could be interesting to
you, so make sure to check those as well.

This page has links to the student proposals which were accepted in past
years:
http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code

If you are interested in BRL-CAD proper, make sure to check the source code
and compile it. The information on how to do this is at the BRL-CAD
website. The project requires that you submit a valid patch with a feature,
bug fix, etc, to show you have a working understanding of the project
source code. This is typically a requirement for other GSoC projects as
well as this helps us conduct the selection process.

Regards,
